"After five weeks among the sights and scenes of the Orient, in Egypt, it was determined we should make the pilgrimage to the Holy Land. We were loath to leave the land of the Pharaohs, where everything had been so novel and full of interest... Returning to Cairo...we found a week all too short in which to enjoy its ever-varying scenes of oriental life." [ A Month in Palestine and Syria, April 1891 ]

The following 40 images, along with the complete 41 pages of text, are from the above mentioned rare book containing original silver print photographs. This 19th century travel story offers a glimpse into the people, culture,
architecture, and landscapes of this Eastern region.
