We were loath to leave the land of the Pharaohs, where everything had been so novel and full of interest... Returning to Cairo...we found a week all too short in which to enjoy its ever-varying scenes of oriental life." [ A Month in Palestine and Syria, April 1891 ]

The following 40 images, along with the complete 41 pages of text, are from the above mentioned rare book containing original silver print photographs. This 19th century travel story offers a glimpse into the people, culture,
architecture, and landscapes of this Eastern region.
